Sheep Heid

The story of the Sheep Heid Inn, Duddingston, Edinburgh, is like all good stories in that nobody seems to have the definitive version.  Its history - though generally assumed to be 'significant'- is one also specked with numerous 'reputedly's', 'supposedly's', 'allegedly's' and general vocal debate.
There has, it is said, been a pub on this spot since 1360 - which would make it the oldest licensed premises in Scotland.  It has the kind of glow and soft, dense atmosphere that, I would imagine, blurs the distinction nicely between day and night.  I would also predict that they have a few nice ales on tap, including a dark house brew that I could easily hazard a guess at being quite delicious.

One thing that can be verified beyond reasonable doubt is the presence of a skittles alley just behind the bar, where on Sunday a peaceful group of youngsters were animating the historic scene.
